Perfect Stranger Chapter 5-6 reading notes

  • every religion claims to teach the path to god p40
    • This highlights Gregory's nonsensical world view. that is not the goal of every religion.
  • I actually really like how he frames there is no path. Using Japanese Buddhist philosophy there are the terms tariki 他力 and jiriki 自力, other power and self power. Jesus is saying that a relationship with god is solely tariki, other power. You're relying on god not some ability of yourself.
    • It is interesting that early Christianity was called the way or path though.
  • P43 his dad didn't spank much, like god preferred restoring relations
    • poor mother framed as screaming
  • p44 can't earn gods forgiveness
  • p45 Muslims have to earn their way into heaven
  • p46 ten commandments have great profit but not heaven
  • p47 god and humanity split
  • p51 mother Teresa's moral good is not even close to gods
  • p54 Muslims think good deeds get into heaven, so god is merciful not perfect judgement.
    • Because perfect justice means paying for every sin.
    • Wikipedia says that judgement is based on goodness.
    • Not just Muslim, non-Muslims can be judged as good as well unless they heard and rejected Islam.
    • But Islam does not have original sin, only the sins committed in this lifetime.
    • Christianity has original sin plus all the sins of this lifetime.
